| This has worried me for some time. When getting a massage at the finish line, I never have any money. I always feel awful not tipping the wonderful person who has given their time and talent. What is the normal protocol for this, do they expect a tip? Thanks for any other tips on how to make their job easier. |

You mean a "high-five" isn't enough?

I can't speak for Rocky, but I'm also a massage therapist. In working sporting events we know the athlete's don't carry cash, and I would never expect a tip. (High 5's are great). What you could do is ask for the therapists card and tell them you'll spread the word, or that you'll try to contact them for a full massage another time. Many massage therapist work these events to meet people, network and grow their business. Help us grow!
Have a great REDMAN!

Nancy,
Thanks so much for asking about the massages at the finish line. As Katharine stated above, most athletes don't carry $$ w/ them to events so the the therapists at those events don't expect tips . . . we're there to enjoy the race & help the athletes on their 1st step towards post-race recovery.
All of the therapists working on race day are volunteering their time. They understand that without volunteers, we wouldn't be able to host these events, so we're more than happy to lend our expertise on race day.
For me, a "thank you" is good enough.
HOWEVER, I will have massage therapists available on the days before AND after the race, if you wish to schedule a longer session than the 10-15 minutes that you'll receive on race day. I'll post a message as we get closer to race day so I can let my MT's know if they're scheduled to see clients.
Good luck w/ the rest of your training!! |
